What we did
  • 2022 Annual Report (PDF format, 60+ pages)
  • Editorial architecture and page templates
  • Complete layout and integration of supplied content
  • Production-ready files for offset printing

Key outcome

3rd year Consecutive mandate for e-MFP

The insight

An institutional report does not read like a magazine: visual hierarchy must guide the eye without imposing a rhythm, respect information density without fighting it.

Our deliberate choices

  • No emotional storytelling: the credibility of an annual report rests on restraint, not graphic effects
  • No redesign of existing visual codes: we work with the established identity, without trying to modernize it artificially
  • No decorative illustration: every visual element is functional and serves immediate understanding
  • Consistent reading grid from one edition to the next: continuity reassures an institutional readership

The challenge

The problem

The European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP) entrusted us with the production of their 2022 Annual Report. This is the third consecutive year we have had the honour of being appointed for this assignment.

  • Dense information to structure
  • Readability for expert readership
  • Consistency with e-MFP identity
  • Balance between restraint and premium expected

Our response

Our team redesigned the editorial layout of the annual report to faithfully reflect the events and achievements of the past year. We created a modern, professional design aligned with e-MFP's visual identity, highlighting key information and making the report easy to read and understand.

  • Rigorous editorial architecture
  • Restrained, controlled visual codes
  • Precise information hierarchy
  • Compliance with institutional standards

Strategic approach

Our choice: favour visual breathing room over graphic clutter. We stripped away superfluous decorative effects to focus attention on the content and ensure a professional reading experience.

Editorial design

Redesigned page layout to lighten information density. Institutional typefaces, calibrated spacing, modular grids that structure without stiffening. Each spread breathes while remaining restrained.

Visual identity

Rigorous application of the e-MFP brand guidelines. Restricted colour palette, discreet graphic elements, homogeneous photographic treatment. The design serves the brand without overshadowing the message.

Hierarchy

Clear content organization by reading levels. Headings, standouts, boxes and quotes positioned to guide the eye naturally. The expert reader should be able to scan or dive deeper without effort.

Production

Complete technical coordination: visual management, editorial proofreading, print and digital file preparation. Control of the validation cycle to meet institutional deadlines without compromising quality.

How we worked

  1. 01

    Scoping

Analysis of information volume, editorial priorities and readability constraints.

    Architecture

Page grid design, definition of heading levels and highlighting systems.

  3. 03

    Production

  4. 04

    Quality control

Technical proofreading, verification of visual consistency, file preparation for printing.

Results

The 2022 report extends the relationship of trust built over three years. e-MFP now has a document that showcases its achievements with the seriousness and restraint expected by its stakeholders.

Frequently asked questions

Why commission an external agency to lay out an annual report rather than an in-house designer?
An institutional report demands specific editorial expertise: prioritizing dense content, maintaining consistency across 60+ pages, anticipating printing constraints. An agency brings a proven method, a fresh eye and critical distance that internal teams don't always have. The result is more fluid, more credible, and the internal team saves time on what matters: strategy and substance.
How do you guarantee visual consistency in an annual report without making the layout rigid?
We define a page grid and section templates that structure the document without imposing a single model. Each type of content (body text, box, table, quote) has its own graphic treatment, clearly identifiable yet flexible enough to adapt to variations in volume. Consistency comes from method, not mechanical repetition.
What is the added value of a third consecutive collaboration on the same deliverable?
Continuity allows us to refine the method each year: we know the readership's expectations, production constraints, organizational changes. The time savings are real, quality improves, and the client doesn't have to re-explain their context. It's a partnership relationship where trust unlocks efficiency.
